WASHINGTON (MNI) – House Minority Leader John Boehner Thursday
unveiled the House Republican “new governing agenda” which includes
extension of all of the Bush era tax cuts and freezing most federal
spending.
Speaking at a lumber yard in Virginia, Boehner said confusion over
economic policy, especially tax policy, is causing “massive uncertainty
for job creators.”
Boehner said that a permanent extension of the Bush tax cuts is
needed. “We believe that permanency creates more certainty for
taxpayers,” he said.
“Nobody knows what the tax rates will be tomorrow,” he said.
“Government is out of control in Washington,” Boehner said, adding
that Republicans would like to “end the spending spree” on Capitol Hill.
The House GOP agenda calls for renewing all the Bush era tax cuts,
a proposal which if coupled with adjustments to the alternative minimum
tax would cost about $4 trillion over a decade.
The House GOP plan calls for repealing the health care law signed
by President Obama this spring.
The House Republican plan would place a cap on most federal
spending at 2008 levels, except for the budgets of the Defense and
Homeland Security departments. Boehner said this would save $100 billion
a year over a decade.
The plan would end government control of Fannie Mae and Freddie
Mac.
“We listened to all Americans as we put this agenda together,”
Boehner said.
