US DATA: Factory new orders fell 0.5% in June, compared with
expectations for a 0.5% rise. The key factor was nondurables orders,
which fell 2.0% in June on a decline in petroleum and coal products, the
largest decline for nondurables orders since March 2009. In addition,
durables orders were revised down to a 1.3% rise from the advance
estimate of a 1.6% rise. Total factory orders ex. transportation were
down 1.8% in June. Factory shipments were down 1.1%, while unfilled
orders rose 0.3% and inventories were up 0.1%. Nondefense capital goods
shipments rose 0.4%, and were up 1.0% ex civilian aircraft shipments.
