US DATA: Sept durables orders -0.8%, about as expected, but were
+1.7% ex transport (now up in 4 of last 5 mos) and -1.1% ex defense.
Boeing Corp had 59 new orders vs 127 in Aug, and Commerce Dept reported
-25.5% new civ aircraft orders. Motor vehicles -2.7% completed the
weakness in transport. Ex transport orders were solid and incl primary
metals +2.6%, machinery +1.8%, computers +1.0%, and electronics +1.9%.
So this was a decent report. Shipments -0.7%, Inventories +0.1%. NDCG
shipments -1.2% after +3% Aug and +1.4% Jul, showing that Q3 capX will
be higher.
