Rally kicked off at 3 pm ET
Equity markets in the US were unchanged into the final hour of trading but took off higher from there with financials among the leaders.
The Fed's bank stress results are due out at 4:30 pm ET (2030 GMT) and will set the tone for the day ahead.
Closing changes:
- S&P 500 up 33 points, or 1.1%, to 3083
- DJIA up 298 points to 25744
- Nasdaq up 107 points to 10017
