–Senate Majority Leader: Democrats Eager To Work With GOP On Economy
–‘Very Important’ To Confirm Two Fed Nominees This Year
–Minority Leader McConnell: Election Will Be About Obama’s Econ Record

WASHINGTON (MNI) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday
he is “very hopeful” the House and Senate negotiators will reach an
agreement “very quickly” on a payroll tax cut extension bill.

In comments to reporters, Reid said Democrats are eager to work
with Republicans on this package and other matters to bolster the
American economy.

But he said Democrats will push for one item in the payroll tax cut
package that Republicans are most opposed to: a surtax on millionaires
to pay for the plan. Democrats will “push for that” during the
House-Senate negotiations which have just begun.

Reid urged Republicans to cooperate with Democrats on a number of
pending nominations, adding that confirming the two pending nominations
for the Federal Reserve Board is “extremely important.”

Senate Minority Mitch McConnell launched tough shots at President
Barack Obama, saying the coming elections will be focus on “what the
president has already done” to manage the economy.

“We know what his record is,” McConnell said.
