Kiev is making it up as it goes along.
Yesterday it announced a hasty retreat from anti-terror operations after Moscow began military training drills. Today Kiev threatened to ‘blockade’ the pro-Russia stronghold of Slovyansk. Via Reuters:
The acting head of Ukraine’s presidential administration, Serhiy Pashynskyi, said the operation to dislodge “terrorists” was continuing in and around the eastern city of Slovyansk and would now focus on “totally blockading” it to prevent militants getting reinforcements and supplies.
That’s an odd tactic because the separatists in Slovyansk have been blockading themselves in. If there are any pro-Ukraine sympathizers in the city blockading them isn’t going to endear them to Kiev.
