Japanese business lobby wants workers to holiday their way to economic growth

The Japanese are some of the hardest working in the world and on average only get eight days holiday a year. Many forgo much of that due to heavy workloads and because the don't won't to inconvenience colleagues by their absence.

The chairman of the Japanese Business Federation (Kiedanren) Sadayuki Sakakibara says that firms should increase paid leave to boost domestic tourism, which has been declining.

It's something Abe agrees with and he's pushing to promote family holidays by giving schools greater flexibility to set holiday dates.

It's another way the government wants to try and promote spending in the economy and while the Japanese do like to travel abroad, there's plenty of fantastic places to visit in Japan.
