China’s Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said on Tuesday that it was possible that there was still a little fudging of trade data, but not enough to distort the overall upward trend:
“There are some analysts who contend that [trade-related] arbitrage has led to false exports and that’s what’s behind the strong export growth. I believe this is speculation and without foundation,”
“We can’t rule out arbitrage activities by some individual companies” … but the export growth in January – when looked at overall was “reasonable and logical”
