BRUSSELS (MNI) – Eurozone finance ministers are happy with the
progress that Greece is making on its austerity plans, Eurogroup chief
Jean-Claude Juncker said on Tuesday.
“We are happy that Greece is on a good track,” Juncker told
reporters after a meeting here of finance ministers from the 16
countries that share the euro.
Investors are worried that the high levels of debt and deficits in
some Eurozone countries could hamper the currency bloc’s economic
recovery. They are also worried about the state of the banking system in
some countries, particularly in Ireland.
“We were listening carefully to our Irish colleague and all of us
are convinced the government will be able to manage the situation,”
Juncker said.
Juncker said the Slovak government’s decision not to contribute its
E816 million share of a E110 billion loan package for the Greek
government was “totally unacceptable.”
