FRANKFURT (MNI) – It is not certain that Portugal will seek
external financial support, despite the fact that its parliament
rejected the government’s austerity package, resulting in the prime
minister’s resignation, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker
said Friday.

It remains the decision of the Portuguese themselves whether they
seek aid, Juncker, who also serves as the head of Eurozone finance
ministers, the Eurogroup, told German public radio broadcaster
Deutschland Funk.

“I do not assume that Portugal will be applying for aid,” he said.
Furthermore, “it is not up to us ask Portugal to seek aid,” but rather,
that is for Lisbon to decide.
