BERLIN (MNI) – The German government on Friday denied rumors of an
European Union summit meeting this weekend on the sovereign debt crisis
in the Eurozone.
“There exist no plans for an extraordinary European summit this
weekend,” government spokesman Steffen Seibert said at a regular
government press conference here.
The government expects that the current euro rescue measures
together with the planned enhancement of the EU Stability and Growth
Pact and the future permanent European crisis mechanism will lead to a
strengthening of the euro, Seibert said.
