JAPAN DATA: Orders for machine tools totaled Y110.7 billion in
September, up 20.3% on year, with the pace of growth accelerating from a
revised +15.2% in August, data from the Japan Machine Tool Builders’
Association showed. Orders from the domestic market, which are seen as a
leading indicator of Japan’s core machinery orders (September data due
out on Nov. 10), rose 31.8% on year, accelerating from a revised +31.1%
in August. Orders from overseas, which account for about 70% of overall
orders, increased 15.5%, compared with a revised +7.2% in August.
