(RTTNews) – The Japanese currency extended previous session’s uptrend against its major counterparts during New York morning trading on Monday. The yen climbed to new multi-week highs of 94.68 against the US dollar, 86.81 versus the Swiss franc and 153.09 against the British pound at around 9:30 am ET, which may be compared to Friday’s closes of 96.03, 88.37 and 156.76, respectively. Against the euro, the yen also traded higher and hit a 13-day high of 131.76 by about 10:20 am ET from last week’s closing value of 134.18.
Currently, the Japanese currency is trading near 95.08 against the US dollar, 132.46 versus the euro, 87.37 against the franc and 154.27 versus the pound.
On the US economic front on Monday, the ISM said its index of activity in the service sector rose to 47.0 in June from 44.0 in May, although a reading below 50 indicates a contraction. Economists had been expecting the index to come in at 46.0.
