Germany goes to the polling booths today in 3 regional elections
Chancellor Merkel has been under fire for her "open-door" policy regarding refugees and Germany ended up taking in over a million in 2015, compared to the 700k first envisaged.
There's little doubt that the issue of refugees in Europe is a political and financial minefield and Germany today gets to apply some pressure on its government.
In January I posted her comments about hoping to still achieve a balanced budget.
The anti-immigration Alternative for Germany party (AfD) is expected to make gains although polls suggest that her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) will remain the biggest party in Saxony-Anhalt in the east of the country.
Asked yesterday how she was preparing for today's elections, Merkel said:
"I'm crossing my fingers."

A resounding defeat for Merkel, more than currently expected, should see a wobble for the euro but this isn't the only game in town right now.
