ATHENS (MNI) – The leaders of the new Greek government said
Thursday they would seek changes in the terms of the bailout accord with
the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.

The goal of the coalition government formed by New Democracy, Pasok
and Democratic Left “is to deal with the crisis, pave the way for growth
and revise the terms of the lending agreement without jeopardizing
Greece’s membership in the Eurozone,” they said in their “Declaration of
the New Government.”

At the same time, they did not dispute the obligation to reduce the
deficit “to zero, control the debt and implement the structural reforms
that the country needs.”

The longer-term goal is to “get Greece out of the crisis
permanently and disentangle it from future needs of loan agreements,”
they said.
