TOKYO (MNI) – Japanese retail sales for February are expected to
show a 0.5% fall from a year earlier, which would be the first drop in
two months following +0.1% in January, according to the median forecast
of analysts surveyed by Market News International.

The Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry will release the data on
Tuesday, March 29 (2350 GMT Monday).

In the past 12 months through January this year, retail sales
posted two y/y drops, -2.1% in December and -0.2% in October.

The slight gain in January was led by higher gasoline and heating
oil prices.
