The government is rumored to have bought futures, turning the market higher. Bush said absolutely nothing in his remarks and stocks have eased as a result. Some had hoped for fresh government intervention in the bank lending market but Bush made no such announcement. USD/JPY leaped to 100.45 before Bush spoke after dipping below to 98.60 as stocks open way down. It has eased to 99.60 as stocks give back 350 points.
