Latest data released by ONS - 21 June 2019

  • Prior £5.0 billion; revised to £6.2 billion
  • PSNB (ex-banks) £5.1 billion vs £4.1 billion expected

The UK budget deficit widens to £5.1 billion in May as government revenue rose by 3% on the year but is overshadowed by a 3.6% increase in current spending. That said, the UK remains in a fiscally healthy position as the budget deficit remains low after having reached a 17-year low of 1.1% of GDP in the last fiscal year.

Nothing much else to gather from the release here. Cable holds weaker on the day at 1.2682 currently as the dollar sits firmer against most of the major currencies so far today.
