–House Majority Leader: Talks With Senate Continue On Spending Bill
–Rep. Hoyer: Three Day Stop-Gap Spending Bill Would Keep the Gov Going
By John Shaw
WASHINGTON (MNI) – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Friday
that the House will pass a three day stop-gap spending bill later
today to keep the government running as talks continue on passing a more
comprehensive 2011 fiscal year spending bill.
In remarks on the House floor, Hoyer said the new stop-gap bill is
needed because the current spending bill will expire Saturday and an
agreement is not ready on a longer stop-gap bill.
“We are not where we need to be,” Hoyer said.
Hoyer said he hopes to provide the full House a more detailed
briefing on the status of the FY11 spending bill and other matters
around 4 p.m. ET.
The House approved last week a stop-gap spending bill that would
fund the federal government for the rest of the 2011 fiscal year.
However, Senate Republicans have said they want a stop-gap bill
that only runs until February 18 rather than a measure that funds
government for the rest of the FY11 fiscal year.
The current stop-gap spending bill funding the government extends
until midnight Saturday. None of the 12 regular spending bills have been
passed yet by Congress for the fiscal year which began Oct. 1.
