Weekly US jobless claims data will be released at the bottom of the hour. Last week’s reported claims were 399K but before that a positive trend appeared to be emerging.

The problem is that holidays and year-end tend to skew the numbers so no one has a firm handle on the employment situation. The consensus this week is 384K with estimates ranging from 384K to 405K.
