Incompetency vs conspiracy
Either the President of the United States is completely incompetent or the media has ruthlessly conspired to destroy him -- likely with the help of Democrats (or possibly some Republicans).
The New York Times, which is chief among Trump's enemies in the press, is out with its latest review of the purported dysfunction at the White House. The highlights:
- Two advisers say he has become sour and dark, turning against most of his aides - even his son-in-law, Jared Kushner - and describing them in a fury as "incompetent."
- He told advisers he knows he needs to make big changes but did not know which direction to go
- He told his communications staff they are safe
- "There need to be serious changes at the White House, immediately," said Senator Patrick J. Toomey, a Pennsylvania Republican
- "They are in a downward spiral right now," said Senator Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican, "and have got to figure out a way to come to grips with all that's happening."
- A "dozen" of Mr. Trump's aides and associates privately agreed with Corker's view and they were more forthcoming about frustration than a few weeks ago
- Trump doesn't have the interest or knowledge of intelligence gather to be capable of leaking specifics and methods
It's really turned into a feeding frenzy. Even a week ago, I thought it would all blow over but I just don't know how Trump can survive three-and-two-thirds more years like this.
