One of the advantages of growing up in New York was the varied ethnic backgrounds of the folks you grew up with and the rich linguistic treasures they brought with them. Some words just don’t have an English equivalent as elegant as some of their foreign phrases that have been incorporated into our ever-changing language.
One of those great words is chutzpah, a Hebrew word meaning gall or audacity (!). Obama’s earlier statement that the US needs to trim its deficit “because we can’t just keep on borrowing from China” is one for the ages. This from a man who is attempting to nationalize health care, education and energy amid a recession as deep as anything seen in the post-war period.
Once all those “investments” are in place, the deficits will be a thing of the past, we are assured…Given the dollar’s slide this afternoon, I don’t buy it and the market doesn’t either…
